As I continue to go through my MACNA treats I thought I would continue with some product reviews! One product that was given out was Instand Ocean Gel Food. I've never used the gel food before so I'll have to admit I was a little apprehensive to try it out.
Lately I've been trying to keep an eye on the types of food I use and what they contain, paying particular attention to the amount of phosphate they contain. According to the packageing the IO Brine Shrimp Gel food contains 0.05% Min. Phosphorus which doesn't seem like a lot. Here are the directions that come with the food and some ingredients:
Directions for Use
- Separate single serving pouch.
- Tear dispensing top.
- Slowly squeeze gel in bite size pieces.
Feeding Guide
Feed several times per week as a supplement, but only as much as your fish will consume within several minutes. Once a packet of gel food is opened, it can be safely stored in the refrigerator and used within 24 hours.Brine Shrimp

With that in mind I'll have to admit I like some of the things that the gel food has going for it. I really like the fact that the food does not have to be refrigerated and I also really like the fact that there is no prep before using the food. Rinsing frozen food can be a pain in the butt and I know I get lazy sometimes and just dump the food in. The real question though is will your fish like it? So to test it out I took a little video of how my fish reacted to the food:
You can see a couple of frames where the fish spits out a little bit, but I think for the most part the fish like the food. If your looking for something different to feed you fish it might be worth a look. Also since fish food can be hit or miss I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who have tried it and what results they got.
