I'm not one to dispense much on advice, but these are site/threads that provide a lot of useful info. I pretty much live on those forums!

A sense of passion is what first drives most hobbyists to raise these fishes... I believe that curiosity is a tremendous motivator, as is doing something that most people still think is impossible.

This thread has sparked my interest. I have not looked at the breeding side of this hobby before. Very intersting! Thanks for the posts everyone!

Where are you from westohooligan? I know flyguy lives here in Lincoln since I've witnessed his tank in person a couple of times. Thanks for sharing, it'll be interesting to see how things turn out.

So I had 1 hatch last night. I've read that it's not uncommon for the hatch to take a couple of nights. I'm hoping the eggs aren't bad, can't help but get a little paranoid. I'll see what happens tonight as it will by night 8. I've talked to enough breeders that say 7-9 nights for hatch rate. We'll see.

So a few eggs were for sure not good, but the rest did finally hatch tonight! I looks like around 50, but with the water tinted, I can't tell for sure.

I am interested to see how urs do with the initial feeding. My tank is a 20g but I have 2-3 inches of water in it to get a consolidated dose of rots when I feed. I was concerned the fry would not find the food easily. I know nature says different. Thoughts?

Seems okay. I just got home and tinted the water as I probably over fed rots this morning, but couldn't see any casualties thus far; of course, they not quite 24 hours old yet...

I can tell they're feeding though. Come Friday I will introduce them to a bit of TDO A.

Long story short, have 1 left from my orginal spawn, then the mixed pair quit laying. They finally spawned on Sunday for the first time in months. I also have a spawning ocellaris pair now. Their first batch, the tile tipped and killed the eggs. I have since remedied that problem.

Took a quick pic of the goofy spawn my mixed pair finally laid. Not many eggs, but considering they haven't spawned in several months, I'll take what I can get. My ocellaris pair should hatch Saturday or Sunday, with the mixed pair a day behind.

Here's some pics of the onyx perc/ocellaris eggs looks like the male removed the bad ones:

And the breeding setup I'm working on:

I always love seeing these kinds of projects. How many tanks and how many breeding pairs are you hoping to get up to? Looks like you have built room to grow for yourself. Keep us updated with the whole process as it continues.
